Software Review for yKAP

Our team of specialists has reviewed yKAP. We actually connected to a demo version of the product, test drove it and wrote down our comments. The review was written objectively and isn't advertising-driven.

Overview Presentation

yKAP (Enterprise 2.0) offers project teams a completely redesigned system that makes reporting, assigning and following up on issues a simple, painless process.

yKAP (Your Kind Attention Please) is a web-based project management system compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later. As soon as you log in, you are taken to a very nice piece of software where simplicity and user-friendliness rule - this is indeed a very kind system! Even deadlines are renamed "preferred closing dates!"

However, beyond this clean blue tab-based interface lies a powerful system well adapted to software development's harsh reality: from well-designed, adaptable forms to easy-to-read histories and an impressive report interface, yKAP packs muscle behind its likeable looks. We also appreciated the possibility to attach reference documents to projects (design specifications, anyone?) and to create test environments with very detailed settings.

Flexible and Powerfull

The report module's genius combines easy sentence-based parameter selection with incredibly detailed form-based options. At first, when selecting a report, the user is shown a series of sentences that help him/her choose the conditions necessary to include an issue or defect in the report. When one clicks on the bold terms, a window opens with advanced options that permit highly detailed selections. For example, you could produce a report on the average time to close issues assigned to a user, from a specific third party, for a specific operating system.

This flexibility is found throughout the system: Even though yKAP already comes with a respectable set of pre-configured parameters, such as system components (for tests and support), issue statuses, priorities, form fields, etc. It is still possible and very easy to add your own or adapt those in place to fit your requirements. Even more, yKAP offers a customization module where businesses can get exactly the system they have been dreaming of.

Comprehensive User Management and Collaboration

User management is fairly simple but comprehensive, with the use of roles for access rights. Hence, all business managers can have tailored access rights. Moreover, since more roles can be created, a user could have unique access rights if it were necessary. We particularly liked the third party users feature, where vendors, suppliers and clients can be created in the system, with their own access rights and settings.

Just like all good project and bug tracking systems around, yKAP offers email alerts, but it goes the extra mile and offers highly flexible configuration options, for example who to send it to and which priority level requires sending the message. yKAP even has an email server test function, to make sure everything is setup properly before implementing email alerts.

yKAP users are given a fairly wide range of customizable parameters, down to the position of fields in the forms. Each user can setup his/her work environment for maximum efficiency and virtually no irritation.

The Bottom Line

yKAP is an ideal system for distributed development or support teams that don't have the resources build their own project management system.and even those who do! yKAP will make your teams more efficient and performance easier to track.
