Our team of specialists has reviewed Defect Manager. We actually connected to a demo version of the product, test drove it and wrote down our comments. The review was written objectively and isn't advertising-driven.
Tiera Software's Defect Manager offers a simple yet highly customizable issue management solution. We especially liked the clean, fast interface, the system statistics and reports, and its amazing flexibility.
Right from the start, Defect Manager cuts to the chase and displays what it's built for: issue tracking. The parameters entered for tracking bugs, defects and feature requests are already quite comprehensive.
However, adding an extra component or drop-down list can be done in seconds! No complicated forms, just a straightforward interface designed to help software development teams do their best at getting that software release out the door, quickly and efficiently.
Whether you are a skilled programmer or an astute manager, you can make the most of Defect Manager. For example, you can run any of a number of pre-configured filters, or build your own with sophisticated Boolean syntax.
When creating a new defect, we found quite interesting how one could bookmark the issue, or even email it to someone. Email notifications are detailed and offer 6 different conditions on which a message should be sent.
This level of finesse is found throughout the system. For example, reports can be created for a single user (private reports) or for everyone (public reports). Already, several quite useful reports are available.
In the case of statistics, named Metrics in the system, they are surprisingly easy to use and fast to be produced. It is clear the creators of Defect Manager have seen the slowpoke quality of some systems and put special attention on their own system's performance. After all, what good is spending time waiting for a pretty system to compute your data?
Throughout the system, flexibility and customizability is thoughtful and useful. Each user can customize his/her views, to see only the parameters that matter to him or her. Clients can be entered in the system and even allowed to connect. SQL queries can be sent to the system.
Even in their product offering, Tiera software offers its clients flexibility: Defect Manager has a Windows-based system, a web-based interface and even an online tech support component, called E-Tech Support. Clients can use any combination of these components together.
Overall, Defect Manager is a good, no-nonsense kind of system that will put your team to work instead of wasting their time filling out forms.
